Tennessee reports 7,238 cases of COVID-19, 152 deaths; 3,575 individuals have recovered

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Tennessee health officials announced 168 new cases of coronavirus Monday and four new deaths.

The Tennessee Department of Health reports 7,238 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 152 total deaths -- up from 7,070 cases and 148 deaths Sunday. So far, 3,575 people have recovered from the virus.

TDH reports 730 people have been hospitalized across the state.

More than 100,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered throughout Tennessee, Latest Memphis News including more than 19,000 in Shelby County where TDH reports 1,839 confirmed cases -- up from 1,807 announced by the Shelby County Health Department Monday morning.

TDH reports 657 people have recovered in Shelby County.

There have been 38 deaths in Shelby County, including eight at assisted living facilities in the county.

SCHD is investigating outbreaks at nine long-term care facilities. So far, 71 residents and staff members have been diagnose with the virus.

In Tennessee, TDH reports cases in people 0 to 100 with the average age of 45. The majority of deaths have occurred in people 81 and older, but one person 10 or younger has died. In Shelby County, deaths have occurred in people 27 to 95 with the average age of 68.



Statewide, white individuals make up the highest number of cases (47%) and fatalities (59%); however, it’s a different story in Shelby County where 68% of cases and 71 percent of deaths are African Americans.

According to SCHD, nearly 81 percent of fatalities have occurred in people with pre-existing heart conditions.
